Rewritten Title: Tehran Police Apprehend Suspects Following Student Protest and Altercation in Sohanak
Article:
In a decisive security operation, Tehran law enforcement has successfully identified and arrested five individuals following an incident near the Islamic Azad University, Sohanak branch. The operation was launched after a protest by students regarding the presence of individuals with criminal records, allegedly involved in drug activity near the campus, led to an altercation.
Protest Precedes Security Operation
According to an announcement from the Greater Tehran Police Command, the incident began when a number of students protested against the presence of known individuals and local troublemakers active in drug distribution near their university. The protest reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, resulting in two students being injured with a cold weapon (e.g., a knife or blade).
Swift Police Action and Arrests
In response, the Greater Tehran Police Command placed the case as a top priority. Following a direct order from the police chief, a special task force was formed, initiating extensive intelligence and field measures to identify and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
Through these efforts, five individuals with criminal records were identified and their frequented locations placed under discreet surveillance. The subsequent operation was carried out in two phases. In the first phase, on Wednesday, officers identified four of the suspects in the Sohanak area. During the arrest procedure, and in accordance with laws on the use of weapons, one suspect was shot, while the other three were apprehended. In the second phase, the fifth suspect was located in the Ozgol district, where he was also shot and subdued before being taken into custody.
Ongoing Investigations and a Firm Warning
The case files of the accused have been handed over to the judicial authority for legal proceedings, and supplementary investigations are continuing.
The Greater Tehran Police Command, while thanking citizens and the academic community for their cooperation in maintaining public order and security, issued a firm warning to all those who disrupt public order and security, including troublemakers and individuals involved in the distribution of narcotics. The statement emphasized that the police will deal decisively, with full informational awareness and without any leniency, with any criminal and norm-breaking behavior, underscoring that citizen security is the police’s “red line.”
