Title: Government Fulfills Pledge: Major Wheat Subsidy Disbursement Underway to Support Farmers
In a significant move to bolster the agricultural sector, the Iranian government has initiated a substantial payment of wheat insurance subsidies, underscoring its commitment to supporting the nation’s farmers.
Subsidies Disbursement Commences
Official reports confirm that the first phase of compensation payments for insured wheat farmers, both for dryland and irrigated crops, has begun. Behzad Babakhani, Deputy of the Agricultural Insurance Fund, announced that a disbursement of 1,100 billion Tomans was initiated to cover verified losses in various provinces.
A Two-Tiered Payment System
To ensure comprehensive support, the compensation is being processed through a structured, two-group system designed to accommodate all eligible farmers.
Group One: Premiums Paid. The first group consists of farmers whose insurance premiums were automatically deducted and paid. These claimants are being prioritized, with compensation transfers being processed immediately upon final approval of their losses by the provincial branches of the Agricultural Bank. The initial 1,100 billion Toman payment targeted this group.
Group Two: Premiums Outstanding. Demonstrating a supportive government stance, the second group includes farmers who, for various legitimate reasons such as not delivering wheat to the government or suffering total crop loss, were unable to pay their share of the premium. Mr. Babakhani clarified that these farmers will also receive full support. For this group, the farmer’s share of the premium will be deducted from the total compensation amount, with the remaining balance paid directly to them.
Continued Payments and Government Backing
Authorities have affirmed that payments for all other qualifying wheat growers will continue steadily in the coming days. The process is designed to be efficient, with compensation being processed immediately after the final verification of damages.
Highlighting the scale of government intervention, it was noted that while the total estimated compensation exceeds 10 HmT (a unit of currency), only a fraction of the corresponding farmer premium had been deposited into the Insurance Fund. The substantial remainder is being covered through the support of the government and the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, utilizing the resources of the Insurance Fund to ensure farmers receive the support they are due.
