Title: New Legislation Paves the Way for Retirees in the Ride-Hailing Sector
Tehran – A new legislative initiative aimed at providing insurance coverage for drivers across the country is set to formally integrate retirees into the burgeoning ride-hailing economy, offering them a secure path to supplemental income.
A Framework for Secure Employment
The “Driver Insurance Plan,” currently under parliamentary review, is designed to streamline insurance provisions for the nation’s driver community. According to officials, a key benefit of the proposal is its explicit provision for retirees. Ali Dehghan Kia, Head of the Tehran Social Security Retirees’ Association, confirmed that the plan would enable retirees to work part-time in the internet-based taxi sector without the current anxieties surrounding their pension disbursements.
“This plan is comprehensive,” Dehghan Kia stated, “allowing retirees who are driving part-time due to living expenses to continue earning an income without worry or concern about their pensions being suspended.”
Clarifying the Narrative, Easing Concerns
The official directly addressed what he described as misleading narratives surrounding the proposal. “Unfortunately, some individuals are exploiting the situation of retirees with the intention of misleading public opinion and creating incorrect anxieties among this group,” Dehghan Kia remarked, emphasizing the government’s supportive stance.
He clarified the current legal context, noting that under existing regulations, any form of re-employment can sometimes lead to the suspension of pension payments. “There have been instances where retirees faced this issue due to inspections and account performance,” he explained.
A Legislative Solution in the Works
Highlighting the proactive steps being taken, Dehghan Kia confirmed that both the Parliament and the Social Security Organization are working diligently to amend the relevant laws. The passage of the Driver Insurance Plan is positioned as the definitive solution to this long-standing concern.
He concluded, “With the approval of the Driver Insurance Plan by the Parliament, the concerns of retirees for re-employment without complications in receiving their pensions will be resolved, and their activity will become fully legalized.” This move is seen as a significant step toward harmonizing economic opportunities with social welfare protections for the nation’s elderly.
