Title: New Student Support Package Announced, Featuring Enhanced Housing Aid for Tehran
In a significant move to bolster student welfare, the Iranian Student Welfare Fund has announced the opening of registration for a comprehensive loan program, set to begin next week. The initiative underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the academic community and ensuring students can focus on their studies without financial hardship.
Comprehensive Financial Support
The announcement was made by Shapur Rezmani, the head of the Student Welfare Fund, during a meeting with student managers. The new registration period will allow students to apply for three distinct types of financial aid: educational loans, housing deposit assistance, and essential living expense loans.
“This program is designed to address the key financial challenges faced by our students,” Rezmani stated. He further highlighted that procedures have been simplified to assist students who may have previously faced difficulties with notarial commitments, ensuring broader access to these vital resources.
Breakdown of Loan Allocations
The educational loans are structured to meet the needs of students at different academic levels. Undergraduate students are eligible for 5 million tomans, while those in master’s and PhD programs can receive 7.5 million and 10 million tomans, respectively. Notably, married students will see these amounts doubled.
A key component of the new package is the substantial housing deposit aid, with a particular focus on supporting students in the capital. Married students in Tehran province will have access to a significant 200 million toman facility to help secure rental housing.
The housing aid is tiered based on city population size. Students in other major cities with populations over 500,000 can receive 150 million tomans, while those in smaller cities are eligible for 100 million tomans. Additionally, an essential living expense loan of 10 million tomans is available to all qualifying students.
Parallel Investment in Student Housing Infrastructure
In a related development aimed at improving the quality of student life, Rezmani confirmed that contracts have been finalized with 75 universities across the country for the repair and equipping of student dormitories. This project will be funded through a 50-50 cost-sharing model between the universities and the Student Welfare Fund, representing a major coordinated investment in educational infrastructure.
This comprehensive support package is seen as a clear indicator of the priority placed on nurturing the nation’s academic talent and ensuring a stable and productive environment for higher education.
