In a move that signals a new phase for one of Iran’s most prominent football clubs, Persepolis FC has appointed Alireza Ardobadi as its new Chairman of the Board. This decision concludes a week of internal deliberations over the leadership position, marking a significant shift in the club’s executive structure.

Ardobadi, a recently appointed board member, was selected for the role this week, succeeding Siamek Jalove. His rapid appointment to the club’s most senior position follows the transition of the former chairman, Peyman Haddadi, who was named as the club’s Chief Executive Officer, necessitating the election of a new chairman.
A Profile from the Financial Sector
The new chairman’s professional background is rooted in the financial industry, not in sports management. His extensive career includes holding board member positions in 11 different roles at Bank Shahr, along with serving as the CEO in three separate instances. His executive experience began in 2010 with a board membership at the Sherkat Ertebat Moshtarak Shahre company, leading to subsequent roles in various corporations, most recently at the Tamin Atiyeh Karkonan Bank Shahr, where he served as CEO for four years.
Bank Shahr Asserts Majority Influence
A key factor in the appointment was the influence of the club’s major stakeholders. Reports indicate that Ahad Mirzaei, the representative of Bank Tejarat who serves as the Vice Chairman, was a candidate for the chairmanship. However, Bank Shahr asserted its prerogative, stating that the chairman must be its representative. With three seats on the board, Bank Shahr now holds a majority and has successfully placed its candidate at the helm.

Ardobadi is expected to take on a demanding role. In addition to his duties as chairman, he is also slated to oversee legal affairs for the club.
