A Presidential Ultimatum to Carmakers
The 128th session of the Iranian cabinet, chaired by President Masoud Pezeshkian, convened on Sunday, with a significant portion of the meeting dedicated to the state of the automotive industry. The discussion focused on modernization plans and the retirement of the country’s aging vehicle fleet.
President Pezeshkian delivered a clear and urgent message. He instructed the Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade to formally notify automakers that they have a one-year deadline to fundamentally improve their engine technology and optimize fuel consumption.
The presidential order was unequivocal: “If, within the next year, car engines are not modified and their fuel consumption is not optimized, they will not receive any foreign currency allocations and will not be granted production permits.”
