Tehran Forges Ahead: Key Infrastructure Projects Near Completion
Fateh Square: A New Gateway for West Tehran
In a significant step to alleviate traffic congestion in the capital’s western districts, the phased reopening of the pivotal Fateh Square project is progressing on schedule. Mehdi Sedaghati, CEO of Tehran’s Engineering and Construction Organization, announced that four of the project’s six planned traffic directions are now operational.
Sedaghati emphasized that this gradual approach allows for a smooth transition of traffic flows, facilitating the execution of the final phases. “God willing, within the next ten days, the last stage, which includes the south-to-west and west-to-west movements, will be completed,” he stated. “This will effectively allow our fellow citizens to utilize Fateh Square in its entirety.”
Beyond its traffic function, the official highlighted the square’s aesthetic and environmental value, describing it as one of Tehran’s beautiful traffic circles. He revealed that approximately four hectares of green space have been allocated for the area, with the first phase ready for handover to the Parks Organization for landscaping and planting.
Overcoming Challenges on the Hefdah-e Shahrivar Expressway
Sedaghati also provided an update on the complex Hefdah-e Shahrivar Expressway project, acknowledging the significant engineering challenges involved. The project area intersects with two of Tehran’s main surface water canals, the Qolqoli and the Firouzabadi.
“Relocation of the Qolqoli canal has been completed, and we are now preparing the bed for the new Firouzabadi canal,” Sedaghati explained. Once the new canal is operational, the existing one will be diverted, allowing construction work on the current expressway section to proceed.
The project also involves managing a main power transmission line running through the area, which is being carefully preserved with specialized technical measures. Sedaghati expressed confidence that, God willing, this critical infrastructure project will be delivered to the citizens by the end of the current municipal administration’s term.
