Title: Police Clarify Purpose of New QR Codes on Vehicle, Driver Documents
Tehran – In an official announcement, the Police Information Center has moved to clarify the specific function and usage of the QR codes now featured on vehicle registration cards and driver’s licenses, addressing public inquiries and ensuring the proper application of the new system.
Official Function Defined
The center explicitly stated that the QR codes are designed exclusively for official use by traffic and law enforcement officers. Their sole purpose is to allow authorities to quickly identify vehicle and driver specifications and verify the authenticity of the documents during roadside checks or other official procedures.
“The connection of citizens to any kind of link via the QR code on the vehicle card or license in cyberspace is effectively invalid and unusable,” the police announcement clarified. “No such application has been defined for these codes.”
Addressing Technical Misunderstandings
The notice also provided a technical explanation for why scanning the codes might sometimes lead to random internet search results. It attributed this to the design of internet browsers, which are obligated to provide a result for any query entered.
“Due to the design of internet browsers and their requirement to provide a result for every request, some numbers within the encoded structure of the QR code may lead to random results when searched directly online,” the police detailed. “This issue is unrelated to the primary function and operation of these codes.”
Reinforcing Secure and Authorized Use
In its concluding remarks, the Police Information Center reaffirmed that the security and integrity of the system are paramount. The reemphasis on the official, limited scope of the QR codes serves to prevent misuse and public confusion, ensuring the technology is applied effectively and securely as intended by the relevant authorities for official law enforcement duties.
