Title: Iran’s Yasna Plan Expands: New Subsidies Target Child Nutrition and Maternal Health
In a significant move to bolster family welfare, the Iranian government has activated the new phase of its Yasna support plan, with updated subsidies for eligible households becoming available as of Azar 1404 (November-December 2025).
A Two-Tiered Support System
The Yasna plan, which previously provided 700,000 tomans per month to mothers with children under two years old, has now been expanded to include a second, higher tier of support.
- Tier One: Mothers with infants under two years of age will continue to receive a monthly electronic voucher of 700,000 tomans. This consistent monthly payment is dedicated to improving infant nutrition and care.
- Tier Two: A substantial subsidy of 1,300,000 tomans is now allocated for children under five years old who have been diagnosed with malnutrition by the Ministry of Health. This specific payment will be disbursed in several installments, continuing until the end of Farvardin 1405 (March-April 2026).
Focused Aid for Mothers and Children
The Yasna plan is a specialized electronic voucher system explicitly designed for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children. The credit is non-transferable and cannot be withdrawn as cash; it is exclusively for the purchase of 16 categories of essential food and hygienic items, including milk, yogurt, cheese, chicken, eggs, meat, legumes, grains, fruits, vegetables, oil, diapers, and shampoo.
This targeted support is available to households in the first to seventh income deciles, with a particular priority given to mothers with breastfeeding infants. The initiative is widely viewed as a crucial measure to ensure better nutrition for mothers during the critical lactation period.
How the Plan Operates
The process for receiving the Yasna subsidy has been streamlined for efficiency. There is no need for in-person registration. Household identification and income classification are conducted automatically using data from welfare systems, and the credit is deposited directly into the family head’s electronic card.
Mothers are required to visit urban or rural health centers to formally register their pregnancy or the status of their child under two years old to complete their file.
Heads of households can easily check their voucher balance by dialing the code #5001463 or by using the “Shoma” (You) application. Further tracking is available through the government support portals hemayat.mcls.gov.ir and my.gov.ir.
A Specialized Tool for Nutritional Security
The Yasna plan is essentially a more specialized version of the general electronic voucher system. Initially covering the three lowest income deciles, it was expanded in Mordad 1404 (July-August 2025) to include the seven lowest deciles. This dedicated credit is separate from the regular monthly subsistence cash subsidy and is loaded onto electronic cards linked to the household’s bank account for the specific purpose of purchasing items related to child health and development.
By focusing on vulnerable groups during a period of global economic pressures, the Yasna plan represents a strategic governmental effort to strengthen the social safety net and prevent the spread of malnutrition among children from low-income families. The continuity and stability of these payments are seen as key to the plan’s long-term success.
