Iranian Social Security Clarifies Role in Retiree Healthcare, Ensures Service Continuity
In an official statement, Iran’s Social Security Organization has moved to clarify its position and responsibilities regarding the supplementary health insurance contract for the nation’s retirees and pensioners. The statement aims to address recent concerns and reaffirm the organization’s commitment to this vital segment of the population.
A Contract Between Other Parties
The Social Security Organization began by delineating its jurisdictional boundaries. It emphasized that the supplementary insurance contract is negotiated and signed directly between the insurance company and the High Council of Retirees and Pensioners.
“The Social Security Organization has no role in the tender process, bidding, or the finalization of the mentioned contract,” the statement read. It further clarified that its consistent role is to pay a portion of the retirees’ insurance share annually, based on its internal decisions, a commitment it continues to uphold.
Navigating Current Negotiations
The clarification comes after the High Council of Retirees published a tender to select an insurance provider. According to the Social Security Organization, the insurer chosen by the council has since requested a significant, non-customary increase in the premium share paid by retirees compared to last year’s rate.
While reiterating that it cannot intervene in the commercial negotiations over rates, the Social Security Organization stated it is actively engaged in a facilitatory role. It is working to help the two contracting parties reach a “logical agreement with a conventional and fair rate” that serves the best interests of the retirees.
Contingency Plans for Uninterrupted Care
In a key assurance to retirees, the organization outlined robust contingency plans. Should the negotiations face delays or an impasse, necessary measures are already in place to ensure the continuous provision of healthcare services.
The organization expressed its readiness to implement legal mandates, including providing a wide range of surgical and medical services for retirees at its own medical centers and affiliated university hospitals. For those with urgent medical needs or scheduled procedures, treatments and surgeries will be performed on a priority basis at the organization’s facilities.
Official Channels for Information
Concluding the statement, the public was directed to the Social Security Organization’s official channels—primarily its website (Tamin.ir) and its verified social media accounts under the handle Tamin_Media—as the sole authoritative sources for news and updates on this and all other related matters.
