Turkish Diplomat: Rival Forces Orchestrating Iran Protests, Cites Israeli Role
Ankara Alleges External Interference in Iran Protests
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated on Friday that ongoing protests in Iran are being “manipulated” by rival forces. Speaking in an interview with TRT, Fidan specifically accused Israel of attempting to exploit public dissatisfaction stemming from economic challenges, having previously failed to weaken Iran through military action.
Economic Context and External Exploitation
Fidan acknowledged the severe economic pressures confronting Iran, noting the nation has faced extensive international sanctions for more than three decades. These long-standing sanctions, he explained, have resulted in “economic bottlenecks” and contributed to periodic, widespread protests. While recognizing that Iran experiences “real dissatisfactions” and “structural problems,” the Turkish diplomat reiterated his belief that current demonstrations are nonetheless subject to external manipulation.
Accusations Against Israeli Intelligence
The Foreign Minister pointed to Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, Mossad, as actively encouraging Iranians to “rise against the government” through social media networks. Fidan claimed that Mossad “does not hide this,” openly calling for rebellion among the Iranian populace. He further elaborated on a perceived shift in Israeli strategy, arguing that after a period where the Iranian people united in response to an Israeli attack, Israel is now endeavoring to exploit public discontent in the absence of active military conflict.
Ankara’s Outlook on Regional Dynamics
Despite these alleged external efforts, Fidan expressed skepticism regarding their ultimate success. He conveyed his conviction that Israel would not achieve its desired outcomes, stating, “I see that the end Israel expects will not happen.” The Turkish Minister concluded by emphasizing that Iranians “know how to respond” to such pressures.
