In a promising development for international security, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has announced active efforts to pave the way for a new agreement with Tehran. Emphasizing a diplomatic approach, Grossi confirmed that the Agency is engaged in continuous and constructive consultations with the Iranian government and key global stakeholders, including the United States, to reach a sustainable solution.
Restoring Oversight Through Dialogue
Speaking to the Spanish broadcaster RTVE, Grossi highlighted the vital importance of reviving full monitoring capabilities as a key mechanism to de-escalate regional tensions. Despite operational disruptions caused by recent external military strikes on specific facilities, the IAEA chief noted that inspectors have successfully resumed their duties in functional sectors. This resumption signals a mutual desire to maintain transparency and stabilize the nuclear dossier.
Iran’s Cooperative Stance
Clarifying the operational landscape, Iranian officials have reiterated their commitment to existing monitoring mechanisms. Tehran has maintained access for inspectors to all facilities unaffected by recent aggressions. Regarding sites that sustained damage, officials explained that specific protocols are required to manage access safely, underscoring that current limitations are technical consequences of the attacks rather than a shift in Iran’s policy of cooperation.
