Physician’s Stroke Claim Ignites Political Debate Over Trump’s Fitness
A leading US physician has intensified political speculation surrounding Donald Trump’s health, asserting that the former president suffered a stroke with gradually improving symptoms. The claim, made by Dr. Bruce Davidson, a specialist in internal medicine and pulmonology, in an interview with The Daily Beast, highlights concerns that could profoundly impact the ongoing political landscape.
Doctor Alleges Past Stroke
Dr. Davidson’s assessment centers on several clinical observations and Trump’s reported medical history. He noted that a daily regimen of a full 325 mg aspirin is typically prescribed to individuals who have experienced a stroke, primarily to prevent recurrence. This detail, he argues, points strongly to a past cerebrovascular event.
Beyond medication, Davidson pointed to a series of behavioral and physical symptoms exhibited by Trump. These include episodes of excessive daytime drowsiness, which the physician suggested could be indicative of a post-stroke sleep disorder. Furthermore, he highlighted observed weakness on Trump’s right side, noting instances where the former president used both hands to grasp objects or supported his right hand with his left. While emphasizing that Trump is not paralyzed, Davidson described this condition as “paresis,” or reduced muscle strength, affecting the right side of his body.
Speech Difficulties and Neurological Indicators
The physician also drew attention to Trump’s speech patterns, suggesting that certain verbal cues indicate damage to the Broca’s area—a critical region in the brain’s left frontal lobe responsible for speech production. Davidson clarified that while these speech difficulties were reportedly more pronounced in the past, they have since shown some improvement.
Broader Health Concerns Fuel Political Speculation
These allegations are not new in the broader context of speculation regarding Trump’s health, which has periodically surfaced during his political career. Previous instances, such as multi-day absences from public view and comments from figures close to him, including Senator J.D. Vance, about readiness for potential transitions of responsibility, have often fueled public debate.
The calls for greater transparency around Trump’s health have grown louder. Earlier reports of an MRI test, where Trump initially declared “excellent” results before later clarifying it was not a brain MRI, have added to the ambiguity. Experts consistently underscore that the release of detailed and comprehensive medical test results for prominent political figures like Trump could provide much-needed clarity and alleviate ongoing public and political concerns about leadership fitness.
