Iran Clarifies iPhone Import Regulations: No Restrictions in Place
iPhone Imports Officially Permitted Without Restrictions
Iranian customs officials have confirmed that importing iPhones into the country remains unrestricted, provided orders are registered through the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade (Ministry of SMET).
Decline in Smartphone Imports Noted
Faroud Asgari, Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), reported that 2.4 million mobile phones were imported in the first four months of the current Iranian year—marking a 23% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Asgari stated that while overall phone imports have declined, there are no regulatory barriers for registered commercial orders. He further clarified that:
- Commercial imports accounted for 2.173 million devices.
- Passenger imports (brought in by travelers) totaled 247,000 devices.
No Changes to iPhone Import Policies
A deputy of the Ministry of Economy emphasized that no new restrictions have been imposed on iPhone imports. All models remain eligible for import under existing regulations, as the government has not issued any new directives altering previous policies.
Asgari reiterated:
“If the Ministry of SMET registers the order, there are no issues or specific limitations on iPhone imports.”
This clarification ensures businesses and consumers can continue importing iPhones without legal obstacles, maintaining market stability.
