Title: “How Unfortunate That You Sit on the Nation’s Cultural Council!” – Actor’s Fiery Critique Sparks Debate
Actor’s Blunt Criticism of Cultural Council Member Draws Attention
Popular actor and director Mohsen Tanabandeh has publicly criticized Hassan Rahimpour Azghadi, a member of Iran’s Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, in a strongly worded Instagram post. The remarks have ignited discussions on cultural governance and public discourse.
A Harsh Rebuke Over “Unjust Treatment”
Tanabandeh, best known for his role in the long-running series Peykooteh (The Capital), expressed frustration over what he called an “insulting and aggressive” response to his legitimate concerns.
“Why should a rightful demand of mine be met with such a reaction—especially from someone who holds a position on the Supreme Cultural Council and claims to champion culture?” he wrote.
Defending Artistic Contributions vs. Cultural Leadership
The actor contrasted his own contributions to Iranian arts with the council member’s record:
“I am just a small part of this country’s art and culture. If asked what I’ve done, I can point to a series that has brought joy to people for 15 years. But if you, as a high-ranking member of the Supreme Cultural Council, were asked the same—what would you say?”
Tanabandeh further criticized Azghadi’s communication style, arguing that such figures should uphold decorum, especially in national media.
A Call for Reflection
The post concluded with a striking remark: “How unfortunate for us that someone like you sits on the nation’s highest cultural council!”
The debate highlights tensions between artists and cultural policymakers, emphasizing expectations of professionalism and constructive dialogue in public roles.
