Germany Urges Iran to Address Nuclear and Missile Programs for Diplomatic Path
Berlin has issued a strong call for Iran to address its nuclear program and bring its ballistic missile capabilities under international scrutiny, outlining key conditions for a diplomatic resolution to ongoing regional tensions.
Berlin’s Call for Controls
Speaking in the German capital, Stefan Kornelius, the spokesperson for the German government, conveyed Germany’s firm position to reporters. He emphasized that “Tehran’s ballistic missile arsenal must be brought under control,” highlighting the urgency of the matter.
Germany’s Diplomatic Conditions
Kornelius further elaborated on Germany’s view, asserting that “any diplomatic solution requires Iran to verifiably halt what Germany perceives as its military nuclear program.” He also underscored the necessity of preventing any missile launches from Iran targeting countries in the region, including Israel and Gulf states. Additionally, he called for an end to activities that Germany views as destabilizing the region. “The ballistic missile program must be brought under control,” he reiterated.
Iran’s Stance on Negotiations
Despite persistent pressure from Western nations, the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently reaffirmed its stance, declaring its willingness to engage in negotiations solely on its nuclear program. However, Iran has unequivocally stated that its defensive missile capabilities are non-negotiable, considering them integral to its national security.
