Parliament Urges Caution in Subsidy Reforms – Key Steps for Households to Avoid Unjust Cuts
Government Adjusts Subsidy Allocation to Prioritize Low-Income Families
The Iranian government is preparing to phase out cash subsidies for high-income households, redirecting freed-up resources to support lower-income families. Parliament has introduced clear criteria to identify eligible households, ensuring a fair and transparent transition.
Mehrdad Baouj Lahouti, a representative from Langarud, emphasized the need for precision in the asset verification system to prevent unjust subsidy removals. He urged authorities to address household complaints swiftly and transparently if disputes arise.
10 Critical Steps to Prevent Unfair Subsidy Cuts
Experts recommend the following actions to avoid misclassification as a high-income household:
- Separate Subsidies for Married Children – Remove married children from the main household subsidy to prevent income aggregation.
- Transfer Sold Vehicle Ownership – Update car ownership records if a vehicle was sold but remains under your name.
- Deactivate Unused POS Machines – Prevent unrelated transactions by disabling inactive card readers.
- Update Property Records – Register any changes in real estate ownership with government systems.
- Correct Residential Addresses – Ensure banking and subsidy databases reflect your current address to avoid merging with unrelated households.
- Limit Non-Essential Card Transactions – Reduce unnecessary purchases to stay within transaction thresholds.
- Report Household Changes – Register deaths, divorces, or separations in the national support system.
- Close Inactive Bank Accounts – Avoid unintended transactions by shutting down unused accounts.
- Manage Joint Accounts – Separate your share from high-turnover joint accounts.
- Review Travel Records – Correct any passport entries for non-household members’ international trips.
Additionally, unmarried children over 18 with financial independence can now be excluded from household subsidies to lower the family’s income classification.
