University Establishes Final Deadlines for Thesis Defenses Amidst Special Academic Year Circumstances
Tehran, Iran – In response to recurring inquiries from postgraduate students regarding thesis defense deadlines, the University of Science and Culture has announced specific timelines for the academic year culminating in March 2025 (Esfand 1404). These extensions are being implemented to accommodate the unique circumstances of the current academic calendar, ensuring academic progress is supported while adhering to established protocols.
Key Deadlines and Regulations for Thesis Defenses
The university has outlined the following provisions, building upon previous directives from the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, and internal academic council approvals:
Students within Permitted Academic Tenure: For students who were eligible to defend their theses or dissertations within their normal academic tenure up to March 1, 2025 (15 Esfand 1404), a special provision has been made. These students are granted an extension to defend their work without incurring additional tuition fees until May 15, 2025 (15 Ordibehesht 1405).
Should these students be unable to complete their defense by the aforementioned date, they will be required to pay the standard tuition fees for thesis extension, in accordance with academic and financial regulations. The defense deadline for such students, after the necessary extension and fee payment, will be extended to September 30, 2025 (31 Shahrivar 1405).
Students with Previously Extended Academic Tenure: Students whose academic tenure had previously concluded and whose cases were under review by special circumstances committees (at university, provincial, or central levels) will also benefit from this special arrangement. Similar to the first category, they are permitted to defend their theses or dissertations without additional tuition fees until May 15, 2025. Beyond this date, tuition fees for thesis extension will apply.
For this group of students, who have received official extensions for their academic tenure from the special circumstances commissions, two crucial points are to be noted:
- Maximum Extension: Their extended academic tenure and defense deadline will be capped at July 31, 2025 (31 Tir 1405).
- No Further Application Needed: Students in this category do not need to reapply to the special circumstances commission for a renewal of their tenure. Their previously issued authorization remains valid until the end of July 2025.
The University of Science and Culture remains committed to facilitating the academic journey of its postgraduate students by providing clear guidelines and necessary support during this particular academic period.
