Iran Expands Welfare Support: 50 Million Tomans in Marriage Aid & Social Initiatives
Government-Backed Marriage Support Packages Launched
The Iranian government, through the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation, has introduced a new initiative to provide financial support for newlyweds under its coverage. Each eligible couple will receive a marriage grant worth 500 million rials (50 million tomans) in the form of electronic credit linked to their national ID.
Majid Elahirad, a senior official, explained that the program is part of a broader effort to facilitate marriage for low-income families while maintaining beneficiaries’ dignity. The process is now fully digitized, allowing couples to select essential household items from approved domestic vendors via the Soha platform (soha.emdad.ir).
Streamlined Digital Distribution
The new “Smart Dowry” system eliminates in-person procedures, ensuring transparency and efficiency. Elahirad emphasized that all marriage-related aid—including dowry assistance, wedding grants, and subsidies—will be processed through this centralized portal.
Expanding Social Welfare Efforts
In parallel, relief campaigns during Muharram and Safar saw over 420,000 hot meals distributed to needy families in Gilan province, alongside 7,400 livelihood packages worth 60 billion rials. Seyed Mojtaba Jalali Pour, head of the Gilan Relief Committee, praised public participation in charity drives, urging continued support through donations to designated bank accounts.
Community-Driven Initiatives
Similar efforts were highlighted in Ardabil, where a “Social Flower-Throwing Ceremony” was held to fund dowries for 106 beneficiaries. Tahereh Razaghpour, head of Ardabil’s Welfare Organization, noted that 84,000 residents in the province rely on state welfare programs.
Jahangir Javanmard, Ardabil’s Deputy for Social Affairs, stressed the need for broader collaboration with NGOs and Basij groups to address poverty, addiction rehabilitation, and educational support.
A Unified Approach to Welfare
These initiatives reflect Iran’s commitment to social justice and poverty alleviation, leveraging technology and community partnerships to uplift vulnerable groups. By integrating digital solutions with grassroots charity, the government aims to ensure equitable access to essential resources.
