Government and Educator Retirees Secure Commitment to Full Welfare Benefits
In a significant development for retired state employees and educators, a formal appeal has successfully underscored the legal right to comprehensive welfare benefits, aligning their entitlements with those of active civil servants.
Retirees Appeal for Lawful Entitlements
Over 30,000 retired government employees and agents formally addressed the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Mohammad Reza Aref, petitioning for the timely and complete payment of statutory and welfare benefits. Their appeal, which remains open for signatures on a campaign platform, is firmly grounded in the nation’s legal framework.
Legal Foundations Cited
The retirees’ letter meticulously references the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Law on Management of Civil Services. It highlights the government’s obligation to ensure the dignity of both active and retired personnel by providing welfare aids. These include essential living subsidies, commodity vouchers, supplementary insurance, and other periodic benefits as stipulated by law.
The appeal notes that, despite these clear legal mandates, the consistent allocation and payment of these benefits have not been fully realized in recent annual budgets, creating a gap between policy and practice.
A Push for Implementation and Transparency
The correspondence brings attention to a recent directive from the Minister of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare. Following the ratification of the National Budget Law for 1404 (2025/2026), the Minister issued a circular instructing all executive bodies to provide full welfare services to their retirees, utilizing their allocated credits.
The retirees have called upon the First Vice President and relevant bodies, including the Plan and Budget Organization and the Civil Servants Retirement Organization, to take immediate action. Their requests are twofold: to allocate and disburse the full benefits owed and to provide a transparent public report on the status of implementing these legal provisions, ensuring no arbitrary interpretation or suspension of the law occurs.
This movement highlights a continued effort to achieve social justice and improve the living standards for those who have served the public sector, reinforcing the principle of equitable treatment for all state employees.
