Parliament Directs Government to Fulfill Commitments to Retirees and Educators
In a significant move addressing national welfare, the Iranian Parliament has issued a directive urging the government to expedite the delivery of long-promised support packages for retirees and resolve ongoing issues for educators and contract workers.
The call to action follows a meeting between the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and members of the government, where special emphasis was placed on revitalizing production units, removing obstacles to economic growth, and ultimately curbing inflation and unemployment to strengthen the public’s livelihood.
A Focus on Economic Justice and Welfare
MP Hadi Ghavami, representing Esfarāyen, Bam, and Safiabad, highlighted the constitutional mandate, particularly Articles 3 and 43, which stress the establishment of a sound economy, the removal of unjust discrimination, and the provision of employment for all. He underscored the critical necessity of resolving the difficulties faced by civil, military, and Social Security Organization retirees.
A primary concern is addressing the situation of retirees from the year 1401 (2022-2023), many of whom reportedly receive less than half of the benefits outlined in the standardized ranking system. The MP stated that existing disparities must be eliminated to ensure fair treatment for all pensioners.
Addressing Systemic Challenges
The directive also brings attention to the need for clarifying the status of the Mehr Afarin plan, contract teachers, and other educational staff. Ghavami pointed to Article 85 of the Civil Service Management Law, which obliges executive bodies to provide basic insurance for all retirees and employees and to facilitate efficient supplementary insurance with their participation—a area where significant disorder currently exists.
Furthermore, the MP emphasized the importance of securing ten essential commodities for the public without concerns over price hikes, aligning with the broader goal of economic stability.
Legislative Oversight and Accountability
With the end of the Persian month of Shahrivar, Ghavami noted the necessity for a performance report on the Seventh Development Plan from the Head of the Planning and Budget Organization. He asserted that Parliament must conduct serious follow-ups in this regard to ensure governmental accountability and the effective implementation of national programs.
This parliamentary initiative underscores a dedicated effort within the framework of the Islamic Republic to bolster social welfare and uphold the economic rights of its citizens, particularly its retirees and educators who have served the nation.
