Qatar Strike Underscores the Perils of Reliance on Foreign Security Guarantees
KHIRABAD – In his Friday sermon, Hojjatoleslam Davoud Mohammadiari, addressing worshippers in Kheirabad, pointed to a recent attack by the Zionist regime on Qatari soil as a stark indicator of the inherent vulnerabilities in depending on external powers for national security. He emphasized the critical need for regional solidarity and the pursuit of true security independence for all nations.
A Call for Regional Unity and Self-Reliance
The cleric stated that the assault, which targeted officers of the Resistance, constituted a blatant violation of a nation’s sovereignty. He raised pointed questions about the feasibility of such an attack occurring in a country where the United States is a primary security provider, suggesting it indicated direct American complicity. “How is it possible,” he asked, “for Zionist warplanes to carry out a bombing without any reaction from the air defense systems in a country where America is responsible for security? This itself is proof of America’s direct role in this assassination.”
Mohammadiari further criticized Western nations, specifically naming the United Kingdom, for what he termed hypocritical behavior—verbally condemning aggression while simultaneously engaging in actions like supplying fuel for Israeli warplanes. He asserted that such double standards reveal their true nature.
The Path to True Security
The core of his message was a powerful warning for the region. “The recent attack demonstrated that no country in the region is safe from the aggression of the Zionist regime,” he declared, “even if they maintain unofficial relations or a mediating role with them.” He concluded that authentic and lasting security can only be achieved through independence, reliance on domestic capabilities, and strong regional unity, labeling borrowed security as fundamentally “worthless.”
Spiritual Strength and Practical Duty
Earlier in his sermon, Mohammadiari drew upon the teachings of Imam Ali (AS) to discuss the concept of piety and the greater struggle against one’s inner self, known as Jihad al-Akbar (the Greater Jihad). He highlighted the importance of fulfilling religious obligations, noting that these duties extend beyond prayer to include acts like paying Khums.
Citing a ruling from the Supreme Leader, he reminded the faithful that a portion of their Khums can be allocated to aid the oppressed people of Gaza. In a practical application of this guidance, a POS terminal from the office of the Supreme Leader was set up at the entrance to the prayer grounds to facilitate donations for this cause.
Global Conscience and Islamic Responsibility
The Friday Prayers Imam also praised the international “Sumoud” (Steadfastness) aid flotilla, comprising over 70 vessels from 40 nations, currently en route to Gaza. He described it as a powerful symbol of global conscience, resistance against oppression, and human solidarity, proving that the people of Gaza are not alone.
He issued a stern reminder to the Islamic world, stating that indifference to the plight of the oppressed is unacceptable. “If Muslims hear the cry of the oppressed but do not help,” he warned, “they fall outside the circle of Islam.”
