Iranian Foreign Ministry Reaffirms Stance on Gaza, Demands End to “Genocide”
TEHRAN – In a significant diplomatic statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has broken its public silence, reiterating its firm position on the ongoing conflict in Gaza and calling for intensified international action.
A Record of Diplomatic Support
The Ministry’s statement referenced a previous declaration from October 2024, underscoring Iran’s consistent diplomatic efforts. It emphasized that the Islamic Republic has “always supported any action and initiative that entails stopping the genocidal war, the withdrawal of occupying forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, the release of Palestinian prisoners, and the restoration of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.”
The document positions Iran as a staunch supporter of what it terms the “legitimate resistance of the Palestinian nation” in their quest for self-determination.
A Multi-Level Diplomatic Offensive
The statement detailed a sustained, two-year diplomatic campaign. It highlighted that Iran has leveraged all its diplomatic channels, particularly within regional organizations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the United Nations. The stated objective of this effort is to “pressure the Zionist regime and its supporters” to halt military operations and secure the withdrawal of forces from Gaza.
A Call for Global Vigilance and Accountability
Honoring the memory of what it described as the “martyrs of the great resistance,” the Foreign Ministry placed a firm onus on the international community. It called for global vigilance against what it perceives as the “deceit and bad faith of the Zionist regime.”
Furthermore, the Ministry made a clear distinction between immediate ceasefire efforts and long-term legal consequences. It asserted that any cessation of violence “will not negate the responsibility of states and competent international bodies to pursue their shared legal, human, and moral duty.” It explicitly called for the “identification and prosecution of the perpetrators of war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip,” aiming to end what it describes as the “decades-long impunity of the Zionist regime.”
This comprehensive statement signals Iran’s continued intent to keep the Gaza conflict at the forefront of its foreign policy agenda through diplomatic and international legal channels.
