Math Teachers Vanish from Tehran-Area Schools: Official Raises Alarm Over Educational Neglect
A member of Tehran’s City Council has publicly raised concerns over a significant educational disruption in schools on the outskirts of the capital, reporting a complete absence of mathematics teachers just one month into the new academic year. The official is calling for urgent intervention from the Ministry of Education.
A Broader Educational Challenge
The issue was brought to light by Seyed Mohammad Aghamiri, Chairman of the Tehran City Council’s Development Committee. While presenting a report on his visit to parks in the Shemiranat region, Aghamiri revealed that schools in the area are facing severe challenges, even following the departure of foreign nationals. He pointed to a sharp decline in student numbers and a critical shortage of teaching staff as primary concerns.
Empty Desks, Missing Teachers
In a startling revelation, Aghamiri emphasized that one school has been operating without a mathematics teacher since the start of the term. “Despite repeated requests for a teacher, the Ministry of Education has taken no action,” he stated. This situation directly contradicts prior assurances from the Minister of Education that no school would be left without a teacher. The location of these shortages is particularly noteworthy, occurring not in remote provinces but in villages adjacent to the nation’s capital.
Call for Accountability and Swift Action
Expressing deep concern over the administrative oversight, Councilman Aghamiri criticized the responsible authorities for their inaction. “We have informed the relevant officials, and this matter must be pursued more seriously,” he declared. “It is entirely unacceptable for schools in the capital, or even its suburbs, to be left without teachers. This is a major shortcoming, and we hope a solution is devised with utmost urgency.”
