Rewritten Title: Judiciary Chief Outlines Strategy for Security and Justice, Highlights National Data Reform
Article:
In a comprehensive address to the High Council of the Judiciary, Hojjatoleslam Mohseni Ejei detailed the institution’s core strategy, emphasizing a dual approach of unwavering legal action and Islamic compassion.
A Dual-Track Judicial Strategy
The head of Iran’s Judiciary articulated a clear policy: there will be “no hesitation” in taking decisive and legal action against those who disrupt public security and safety, including “thugs, terrorists, and armed robbers.” Simultaneously, he stressed that Islamic mercy would be shown to convicted individuals who meet the necessary conditions. Ejei underscored that adherence to Islamic judicial ethics remains a paramount consideration at all stages of legal proceedings, ensuring justice is not only present in the final verdict but is woven throughout the entire process, from interactions with the accused to upholding the law and the dignity of the people.
Addressing a National Shortcoming: The Data Deficit
Shifting focus to a critical national issue, the Judiciary Chief pointed to the country’s significant shortcomings in data collection and statistics. With National Statistics and Planning Day approaching, Ejei highlighted that a lack of precise data, including on the total population and the number of foreign nationals residing in the country, hinders effective planning and decision-making for national progress.
“This is certainly a shortcoming, and its effects are felt in our planning and decisions,” Ejei stated. He called on relevant officials within the judiciary to work diligently to create a flawless statistical system across all its departments, noting that in the age of modern technology, such weaknesses are “unjustifiable.”
Technological Advances and a Father’s Lesson in Forgiveness
Ejei praised the judiciary’s recent progress in expanding public access to justice through technological services, thanking the head of the Statistics and Information Technology Center for their efforts. He noted that the advanced and secure systems have even drawn requests from other government bodies wishing to utilize them.
The speech also took a poignant turn as Ejei highlighted the profound impact of forgiveness, citing the example of the father of Amir Mohammad Khaleghi, a student murdered last year. Despite his grief, the father granted a reprieve to the convicted killer and advised him to seek solace in the Quran.
“That grieving father truly taught us a lesson,” Ejei said. “He taught us about overcoming emotions while in mourning, and by advising his son’s killer to connect with the Quran, he promoted divine teachings. These are valuable actions that media should strive to propagate.”
Concluding Tributes and Calls for Prudence
Ejei concluded the session by emphasizing the necessity of prudence and cost-saving measures across all sectors, particularly in water and energy consumption, given the current national conditions. The meeting also included tributes to historical figures of the Islamic Revolution and a commemoration of the martyr Yahya Sinwar, who was praised for his decades of resilient resistance. Ejei also offered condolences on the passing of Sardar Alireza Afshar, a veteran commander of the Sacred Defense era.
