Iran Approves Special Bonus Expansion for Public Sector Employees
In a significant administrative development, the Iranian government has initiated procedures to implement a special bonus for a wide range of public sector employees, following legislative amendments to the country’s Seventh Development Plan.
Directive Aims to Widen Eligibility
The move comes after the Iranian Parliament approved an urgent amendment to Article 106 of the plan, expanding the scope of eligibility for the “special bonus.” Originally authorized for employees within the executive branch, the bonus has now been extended to include personnel from municipalities, the armed forces, the judiciary, and other key institutions outlined in the country’s Management and Civil Service Law.
Implementing the Parliamentary Mandate
Mr. Aladdin Rafiezadeh, the head of the State Management and Planning Organization and a Vice President, confirmed the progress. In a statement, he explained that the government is now working to incorporate these parliamentary revisions into its own directives.
“The granting of the special bonus had previously been discussed and reviewed in the Wages Council,” Rafiezadeh stated. “We have now begun the process of applying the changes made by the Parliament. The amendment pertained to the special bonus for employees of executive devices, which has been extended to employees of bodies outside the government as well.”
Addressing Pay Structure Reforms
The special bonus is seen as a component of broader efforts to maintain equitable pay structures within the public sector. It is designed to replace certain previous allowances that were discontinued, ensuring that employees, particularly those in municipalities, are not adversely affected by recent changes to the compensation system.
Next Steps and Anticipated Outcome
The final directive, which will detail the implementation process and the specific bonus ceilings, is currently under review by relevant government commissions. Officials have indicated that once a decision is finalized and the directive is officially issued, a public announcement will be made, allowing millions of public servants across various state institutions to benefit from this financial measure.
