Food Security Steadfast Amidst Economic Reforms and Regional Dynamics
Tehran, Iran – Iran’s Minister of Agriculture Jihad, Gholamreza Norouzi Qezeljeh, has affirmed the nation’s robust food security and market stability, even as the country navigates significant economic reforms and a challenging regional landscape. Speaking on the crucial role of his ministry in ensuring food availability and market regulation, Qezeljeh highlighted proactive measures implemented for key periods like Ramadan and Nowruz, which have successfully met public demand.
Domestic Production as the Cornerstone of Food Security
The Minister emphasized that over 85% of Iran’s food security is domestically sourced, a testament to the dedication and hard work of farmers, producers, and rural communities. “Farmers, beneficiaries, herders, poultry farmers, villagers, and nomads are all working with increased enthusiasm to continue production under all circumstances,” he stated. Qezeljeh also noted the positive impact of favorable rainfall on agricultural output, predicting even better prospects for the supply of agricultural products and essential goods in the coming months.
Sustained Supply and Price Moderation in Focus
Qezeljeh reiterated his earlier commitment regarding the uninterrupted supply of essential goods, even during times of regional conflict. “Approximately 35 days into these developments, we reaffirm that with the active participation of stakeholders in the vast agricultural sector, we will ensure the continuous supply of essential goods,” he declared. He pointed to the visible abundance of goods in markets and the favorable price points as evidence of successful management, acknowledging the cooperative efforts of retailers and distributors, and even noting instances of price reductions on some essential items compared to the previous month.
Strategic Reserves Remain Untapped
Addressing concerns about supply, the Minister confirmed that goods are being supplied at 100% capacity, with prices becoming more balanced. While acknowledging that some sectors, such as poultry farming, are currently facing challenges with low prices, he commended their continued commitment to production. Qezeljeh assured that ongoing measures aim to stabilize prices and ensure the economic viability of production for all stakeholders.
He further revealed that Iran has not yet had to tap into its strategic reserves. “Our most significant reserves are divine grace and suitable rainfall, alongside the continuous and uninterrupted production in the country,” he explained. “We have emergency reserves that have not been utilized, and our inventory is sufficient. Favorable weather and climatic conditions have also contributed to optimal production, leaving no room for concern in this regard.”
Unwavering Commitment to Future Supply
Concluding his remarks, Minister Qezeljeh conveyed the unwavering commitment of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad and its nationwide network of colleagues, along with all sector stakeholders. “Just as food security and the supply of essential goods and agricultural products have been optimally managed to date, we will continue with full strength, and our people will have no concerns in this regard,” he assured.
