August Subsidies Disbursed: Funds Now Available for Eligible Families
Tehran – The direct cash subsidy for the month of August has been successfully deposited into the accounts of eligible households, the Targeted Subsidies Organization announced. The funds are now available for withdrawal by heads of households.
Timely and Early Disbursements Continue
This disbursement continues a pattern of timely and occasionally early transfers observed throughout the past year. For instance, in the Persian month of Esfand, subsidies for the fourth to ninth income deciles were deposited two days before the Nowruz holiday, and in Azar, funds were transferred on the eve of Yalda night, ensuring citizens had support ahead of the celebrations.
Focus on Low-Income Deciles
The current payment applies specifically to the first to third income deciles. The amount per eligible individual in the fourth to ninth deciles remains set at 300,000 tomans. Consequently, the total disbursement for August varies by household size:
- Two-person household: 600,000 tomans
- Three-person household: 900,000 tomans
- Four-person household: 1.2 million tomans
- Five-person household: 1.5 million tomans
Phasing Out Subsidies for High-Income Earners
A significant policy shift, mandated by the Parliament’s 2023 legislation and incorporated into the 2024 national budget, is the ongoing process of phasing out cash subsidies for the top income earners. The government is tasked with reallocating these resources to further support the three lowest-income deciles.
This multi-stage process has already seen the removal of subsidies for 750,000 individuals, including 150,000 residents abroad and others identified as high-income based on economic indicators. The final and main phase of this plan is scheduled for implementation in the upcoming month of Shahrivar (beginning late August 2024).
Transparent Process and Appeal Mechanism
Ahmad Meydari, the Minister of Cooperation, Labour, and Social Welfare, recently emphasized the government’s commitment to a transparent process. He stated that all data is being updated, and individuals identified for removal will be informed of the reasons prior to any action. A comprehensive appeals mechanism has been established.
Affected individuals can register their objections through the dedicated support portal (hemayat.mcls.gov.ir) via the National Window of Smart Government Services. The process requires submitting detailed information on household income, vehicles, and bank transactions to receive a tracking code. Alternative methods for filing appeals include calling 021-6369 or visiting Government Service Centers (Porseman).
Minister Meydari assured that if a review confirms an individual’s income falls below the designated threshold, their subsidy will be reinstated. However, providing false information may result in ineligibility for other state support mechanisms, such as subsidized loans or land.
