Barzani Sounds Alarm: ISIS Threat Rises Amid Escalating Syrian Conflict
Erbil, Iraq – Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, today issued a stern warning regarding the escalating military confrontations in Syria, emphasizing the grave threat they pose to regional stability and the potential resurgence of ISIS. Barzani urged the international coalition to immediately fulfill its responsibilities and prevent the extremist group from regaining strength.
Mounting Conflict and the Shadow of ISIS
In a statement widely reported by Al-Furat News, President Barzani expressed “deep concern” over the ongoing clashes between Syrian government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). He cautioned that the continued fighting represents a serious danger to the security and stability of both Syria and the broader region, creating fertile ground for the re-emergence of ISIS.
“We in the Kurdistan Region are following with deep concern the continuation of military confrontations between Syrian government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF),” Barzani stated. “The persistence of war and conflict poses a serious threat to the security and stability of Syria and the region as a whole, paving the way for the dangerous re-emergence of ISIS.”
Diplomacy Over Conflict: A Plea for Peace
Highlighting persistent diplomatic efforts, Barzani revealed continuous contact with regional and international parties since the onset of tensions. His objective has been to halt hostilities and encourage a path of dialogue and understanding for a peaceful resolution. “War and military confrontations will not solve any problems; rather, they will complicate the situation further,” he underscored.
The Kurdistan Region President reiterated his call for the international coalition to uphold its commitments in preserving stability and preventing ISIS’s return. He affirmed the Kurdistan Region’s readiness to provide all necessary facilities and assistance to achieve a ceasefire, halt the conflict, and facilitate a comprehensive agreement.
Safeguarding Rights in a Future Syria
Concluding his remarks, Barzani stressed the critical importance of protecting the rights of Kurds and all components and groups within Syria. He advocated for these rights to be fully guaranteed and enshrined in Syria’s future constitution, laying a crucial foundation for lasting peace and inclusivity in the post-conflict era.
