Baghdad’s Urgent Call: Global Unity Essential to Counter Persistent ISIS Threat
Iraq’s National Security Advisor Issues Stark Warning
Baghdad – Iraq’s National Security Advisor, Qassem al-Araji, delivered a potent warning today, Tuesday, emphasizing that the threat posed by the Islamic State (ISIS) remains a tangible danger to both regional and global security. His remarks underscored the critical need for a unified international and regional front to effectively combat the terror group.
The Enduring Terrorist Menace
In a message disseminated on the social media platform ‘X’ and reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), al-Araji asserted, “Based on Iraq’s national and regional responsibility in confronting terrorism, we reaffirm that the danger of the ISIS terrorist group continues to pose a real threat to the security of the region and the world.” This statement highlights Iraq’s front-line experience and its ongoing commitment to counter-terrorism efforts.
Exploiting Instability and Gaps
Al-Araji elaborated on how the extremist group capitalizes on existing vulnerabilities. He noted that ISIS “has exploited the state of instability in Syria and the security and humanitarian vacuums left by years of conflict.” This strategic exploitation allows the group to reconstitute and pose renewed challenges, emphasizing the interconnectedness of security dynamics across borders.
A Unified Strategy for Global Peace
In response to this persistent threat, Iraq’s National Security Advisor called for a comprehensive, unified international and regional strategy against ISIS. He outlined key pillars for such an approach: strengthening security coordination, actively supporting political solutions to underlying conflicts, and robustly addressing the root causes of extremism. Al-Araji concluded by stressing that such concerted efforts are indispensable for “guaranteeing the preservation of security and stability and achieving lasting peace in the region and the world.”
