Iranian Government and Parliament Forge Consensus to Expand Food Subsidy Program for Vulnerable Families
In a significant move to bolster social welfare, senior Iranian officials have announced a unified effort between the government and parliament to enhance financial support for the nation’s low-income households through an expanded food subsidy program.

The announcement was made by Ahmad Meydari, the Minister of Cooperation, Labour, and Social Welfare, during a national charity event. Minister Meydari directly addressed the importance of the “Goods Allocation Coupon” system, commonly known as the food stamp program. He emphasized that while the subsidy amount might seem negligible to the middle class, it holds profound significance for impoverished and vulnerable segments of society.
“Although the food stamp program might seem like a small amount for the middle class,” Meydari stated, “it is of great importance for the needy classes.”

He expressed optimism that with the necessary resources secured, the government will be able to broaden the scope and impact of this crucial social safety net.
