Title: New Phase of Electronic Voucher Scheme to Deliver Enhanced Support to Iranian Families
Introduction
In a significant move to bolster social welfare, the Iranian government is set to implement the new phase of its Electronic Voucher Scheme by the end of the Persian month of Aban 1404. This initiative, a key component of the nation’s social safety net, will substantially increase the financial support provided to eligible households, with some families receiving up to 900,000 Tomans in combined subsidies.
Structured Support for Lower-Income Deciles
The Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare has outlined the credit allocations for the new phase. In a targeted approach, the first to third income deciles will receive a voucher credit of 500,000 Tomans. Households in the fourth to seventh deciles will be allocated 350,000 Tomans. When combined with the direct cash subsidy of 400,000 and 300,000 Tomans respectively, the total monthly support for the first three deciles will reach 900,000 Tomans, while other eligible deciles will receive approximately 650,000 Tomans. The tenth income decile remains excluded from these subsidies.
Expanded and Diversified Commodity Basket
Aligning with the goal of improving services, the electronic voucher commodity basket has been expanded. Beyond essential staples such as rice, oil, pasta, dairy, eggs, and chicken, the list now includes a greater variety of protein sources. New additions like turkey meat, quail, fish, and shrimp offer households more diverse choices, enhancing the nutritional value and flexibility of the program.
Scheduled Disbursement of Subsidies
The payment schedule for the direct cash subsidy has been clearly defined. Households in the first to third deciles will receive their payment on the 25th of Aban 1404. Payments for the fourth to ninth deciles are scheduled for the 30th of Aban 1404, ensuring a structured and timely transfer of funds to beneficiaries.
Parliamentary Emphasis on Timely Implementation
The implementation of this social welfare program has received high-level political backing. Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament), recently addressed the public session, emphasizing that the fifth phase of the Electronic Voucher Scheme must be finalized by the end of Aban. He also underscored the complete coordination between the government and the parliament in the successful execution of this vital national program.
