Tehran, Iran – Iran’s foreign trade has demonstrated significant strategic shifts this year, with official data from the Iran Customs Administration revealing a nuanced picture of the nation’s economic engagement with global markets. While overall trade volume has seen an increase, a notable approximately 11% shift in the balance of trade value underscores a strategic reorientation of economic priorities, particularly concerning the import of essential goods.
Bolstering Trade Volume Amidst Evolving Global Markets
According to recent reports, Iran’s total foreign trade, measured by weight, reached an impressive 163.213 million tons, marking a 2% increase compared to the previous period. This growth in physical trade volume signals Iran’s continued commitment to maintaining and expanding its international commercial partnerships and supply chains.
Over the past ten months, Iran successfully exported 130.036 million tons of various commodities, valued at $45.015 billion. This represents a 1.44% increase in export weight year-on-year, demonstrating the nation’s capacity to sustain its physical export output. Concurrently, imports totaled 33.177 million tons, valued at $49.107 billion. While import weight saw a 4.6% rise, the overall decrease in import and export values (6.3% for exports and 15.6% for imports) reflects global market price fluctuations and a deliberate policy focus on high-volume, lower-unit-value essential commodities. Prioritizing National Welfare: Rapid Clearance of Essential Goods
A key indicator of the government’s focus on public welfare and national food security is the expedited processing of essential goods. In a recent 24-hour period, a substantial 158,232 tons of basic commodities were successfully imported and cleared through Iranian customs. This included 245 tons of red meat, underscoring efforts to ensure diverse food supplies for citizens.
Further illustrating this commitment, 6,640 trucks laden with essential goods were dispatched from customs facilities across the country within the same day. Detailed reports confirm the rapid clearance of significant quantities of staple items, including 76,786 tons of wheat, 38,724 tons of corn, 9,994 tons of barley, 10,857 tons of soybean meal, 2,793 tons of rice, 2,060 tons of crude edible oil, and 13,154 tons of oilseeds. Additionally, crucial supplies of legumes, medicines, pharmaceutical equipment, and other vital necessities were promptly released, highlighting the government’s efficient logistical management and unwavering dedication to safeguarding public health and ensuring the availability of staple goods for all Iranians.
