Tehran Faces Prolonged Dry Spell as Meteorological Official Confirms No Rainfall in Sight
A Widespread Dry Pattern
Ms. Sahar Tajbakhsh, the Head of Iran’s Meteorological Organization, has confirmed that the current low-precipitation conditions across the country are persisting as forecasted. In an interview, she stated that based on meteorological data, no rainfall is expected in Tehran province for the next ten days. This dry pattern is even more intense in many other regions, including the eastern, southern, and central Zagros plateau areas.
Challenges of a Populous Capital
Highlighting the specific challenges for the capital, Tajbakhsh explained that Tehran bears a very heavy population load, which naturally leads to significantly higher water consumption compared to other provinces. This demographic pressure makes water resource management and provision in the region particularly demanding.
Regional Drought Conditions
The official elaborated on the broader climatic situation, noting that drought conditions are present across the Iranian plateau and the Zagros regions. However, she indicated that the severity of water shortage is comparatively less in the northern parts of the country. The prevailing weather systems offer no indication of relief for Tehran in the immediate future, solidifying the forecast of a continued dry period.
