Title: Government Monitors Essential Goods Market, Announces New Price Framework
Tehran – In a weekly review of the essential goods market, state-monitored prices for key food items have been announced, with government officials highlighting measures to ensure supply and stabilize the market for consumers.
Official Pricing for Staples
According to the market survey for the week ending October 8, 2025, the officially set price for a kilogram of eggs for consumers has been established at 92,000 Tomans. This announcement is part of the government’s ongoing oversight to align market prices with state guidelines.
Meat Market Overview
The report detailed pricing across various meat sectors:
- Red Meat: The price of red meat, particularly veal, was noted in the market. In related news, Masoud Namazi, an official from the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, informed reporters of plans to supply imported veal at a price point below 700,000 Tomans per kilogram in retail stores.
- Poultry: The new official price for a kilogram of chicken has been set at 135,700 Tomans. Poultry industry officials have announced that the supply of chicken will be increased moving forward. The price for a kilogram of live chicken is set at 87,000 Tomans.
- Turkey: With the addition of turkey meat to the electronic coupon system, its price in the market currently ranges between 169,000 and 179,000 Tomans per kilogram.
Addressing the Egg Price Gap
Market observations indicate a discrepancy between official and retail prices for eggs. While the state-set price for consumers is 92,000 Tomans per kilogram, the cost to supermarket owners is reportedly around 97,500 Tomans. Consequently, a standard 2-kilogram carton of eggs is being sold for 210,000 Tomans, a figure that exceeds the government’s stipulated maximum of 184,000 Tomans per carton. Last week, the head of the Central Union of Poultry Farmers announced that the official farm-gate price for a kilogram of eggs was set at 77,000 Tomans, an increase from the 63,000 Tomans established in May.
Dairy and Pasta Prices See Adjustments
The weekly survey also noted price movements in other essential goods:
- Dairy: A 100-gram package of a certain brand of animal butter saw a price increase, rising from approximately 68,000 Tomans to 74,900 Tomans. The report notes that weekly price rotations for various dairy products like yogurt and cream among different brands are a common market occurrence.
- Pasta: The price of a 700-gram package of pasta has increased twice this year. After a 25% rise in May, which took the price from 33,000 Tomans to 41,250 Tomans, it has seen another approximate 14% increase in the past week, reaching 47,000 Tomans.
The continuous monitoring and announcement of prices for essential goods underscore the government’s focus on market regulation and consumer access to basic food items.
