Eid Bonus Boost: New Rates Announced for Private Sector Employees
In a move impacting millions, the Iranian government has set new, higher rates for the annual Eid al-Fitr bonus for employees covered under the Labor Law. According to official reports, the minimum bonus for this year has been established at 20 million tomans, with a maximum cap of 31 million tomans. All companies and employers are legally mandated to adhere to these new minimum and maximum amounts. The payment process for these bonuses commenced in the month of Bahman and is scheduled to continue until mid-Esfand.
A Notable Increase from Last Year
This year’s figures represent a substantial increase compared to the previous year. In the last Iranian year, the minimum Eid bonus stood at 14 million and 323 thousand tomans, with a maximum of 21 million and 485 thousand tomans. The new rates signify an approximate increase of 7 million tomans for the minimum bonus and nearly 10 million tomans for the maximum, reflecting the government’s attention to the economic circumstances of the workforce.
Different Structures for Different Sectors
The calculation of the Eid bonus differs between private sector workers and government employees. For workers under the Labor Law, the bonus is calculated based on 60 to 90 days of their base wage. In contrast, the bonus for state employees is typically set as a fixed, lump-sum amount, which has historically been lower than the amounts seen in the private sector. This structural difference has been a topic of ongoing discussion regarding compensation frameworks.
Payment Schedule for Government Employees and Pensioners
For government employees and pensioners, the specific bonus amount for the current year is set to be determined by the Cabinet in the coming weeks. Last year’s bonus for state employees was 3 million tomans, which included additional allocations for family and children. The government has announced that payments for this group are also planned to be deposited into accounts by the first half of Esfand, ensuring timely disbursement ahead of the Eid holiday.
