Iran and Sri Lanka Strengthen Relations, Discuss Regional Dynamics in Key Diplomatic Call
High-Level Diplomatic Exchange
In a significant diplomatic engagement, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araqchi, held a telephone conversation with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister, Vijitha Herath, on Friday evening. The comprehensive dialogue covered both pressing regional developments and the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations.
Iran’s Perspective on Regional Stability
During the call, Minister Araqchi elaborated on the latest regional situation, specifically highlighting what Tehran characterizes as military aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran. This update underscored Iran’s concerns regarding regional stability and its sovereign security.
Gratitude for Humanitarian Assistance
A central theme of the discussion was Iran’s profound appreciation for Sri Lanka’s humanitarian efforts. Minister Araqchi conveyed gratitude for the Sri Lankan government’s dedicated assistance in the rescue and recovery operations concerning sailors of the Dena frigate. These sailors were martyred following an incident on March 3rd, which Iran describes as a “brutal and illegal American attack” on the vessel. Furthermore, the Iranian Foreign Minister thanked Sri Lanka for its crucial role in facilitating the transfer of the bodies of 84 of these martyrs back to their homeland.
Fostering Bilateral Cooperation
Beyond regional matters, the two foreign ministers also engaged in extensive consultations on enhancing bilateral relations. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across various sectors, signaling a mutual desire to strengthen the bonds of friendship and partnership between Iran and Sri Lanka.
