A Logistical and Financial Breakthrough
Club administrators have successfully coordinated a strategic arrangement to ensure this important away fixture incurs no financial cost for the club. This initiative also indirectly facilitates the release of a portion of the club’s legitimate funds currently held by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Due to existing international banking regulations, Esteghlal, like other Iranian clubs, cannot directly receive its allocated revenues from the AFC. This has necessitated the development of innovative, lawful solutions to overcome these operational challenges.
A Model of Regional Partnership
Reports indicate that Esteghlal, in a move highlighting sports diplomacy, has coordinated with the United Arab Emirates Football Association (UAEFA). For the duration of its stay in Dubai, all of Esteghlal’s operational expenses—including hotel accommodation, meals, training facilities, and local transportation—will be fully covered by the UAEFA. The Iranian club will only be responsible for its flight costs.
This arrangement is not structured as a direct hosting but through an official financial process. The UAEFA will invoice the AFC for all incurred expenses. The AFC will then deduct this amount from Esteghlal’s withheld revenues in Malaysia and transfer it to the Emirati federation. This effective model has been utilized in previous Asian travels for the club, showcasing a sustainable and practical framework for international sports participation.
