Final Venue for Esteghlal vs. Persepolis Derby Confirmed
Tehran Derby Set for New Location Amid Stadium Renovations
The highly anticipated Tehran derby between Esteghlal and Persepolis for the 25th season of the Persian Gulf Pro League has been officially scheduled. The match, a pivotal fixture of the twelfth week, is set for the 19th of Azar (December 9th or 10th). Due to ongoing renovations at the iconic Azadi Stadium, the match will be held at an alternative venue. Persepolis, designated as the nominal host for this encounter, is responsible for selecting and proposing the stadium to the League Organization.
Host City Speculation Intensifies
With over a month remaining until the clash, significant discussion surrounds the choice of host city. Several locations have been floated by various media sources as potential venues, including Arak, Ghal’eh Hassan Khan, Shiraz, Mashhad, and Qazvin. Among these, Shiraz’s Pars Stadium has been the most frequently mentioned, largely due to its high capacity and modern facilities.
Club Official Weighs In on Options
Peyman Haddadi, a club official, commented on the selection process, stating, “We must speak with Mr. Osmar [the team’s coach] and get his opinion. We need to decide soon; Shiraz, Arak, and Mashhad are the hosting options.”
Reflecting on past experiences, Haddadi added, “We have good memories of Arak and the victories we achieved there last year; the fans also have good memories. We have not lost in the derby for several years, and last season we also managed to win in Arak.” The final decision is expected to be announced imminently as both clubs and the league prepare for one of the most-watched sporting events in the country.
