Title: Iran and Belarus Strengthen Ties Amid Regional Challenges
Speaker of Parliament Meets Belarusian Ambassador
TEHRAN – Dmitry Koltsov, the Ambassador of Belarus to Tehran, met with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, on Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.
The meeting highlighted the growing cooperation between the two nations, particularly in parliamentary and economic spheres, while also addressing recent regional tensions.
Iran’s Firm Response to Aggression
Ghalibaf condemned the recent illegal and criminal attacks by Israel and the U.S. on Iran’s nuclear facilities, emphasizing that such actions violated international law. He stated that Iran had issued prior warnings against any violation of its territorial integrity and delivered a decisive response to the aggressors.
“Our retaliatory measures were strong and will be even stronger if such aggression is repeated,” Ghalibaf asserted. He noted that Iran’s nuclear activities remain under IAEA supervision and comply with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The Speaker also pointed out that the attacks occurred while Iran was engaged in indirect negotiations with the U.S., further complicating diplomatic efforts.
Commitment to Regional Stability
Ghalibaf reiterated Iran’s policy of promoting peace and stability in the region, attributing tensions to the illegal presence of Israel as a proxy force for the U.S. He reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to defend its sovereignty with greater force if necessary.
Expanding Iran-Belarus Relations
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations and discussed opportunities for further collaboration, particularly within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Ghalibaf highlighted the potential for enhanced economic cooperation, especially in private sector initiatives.
Ambassador Koltsov praised the historical ties between Belarus and Iran and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening relations across all fields. He announced plans to convene a joint economic cooperation commission by the end of the year.
Belarus Supports Iran’s Sovereignty
Koltsov commended Iran’s resilience in the face of external pressures, stating, “The Iranian nation has demonstrated unwavering strength in defending its ideals and homeland.” He expressed Belarus’s solidarity with Iran during recent regional tensions.
The meeting underscored the mutual desire to strengthen parliamentary and economic ties, reflecting a shared vision for expanded cooperation in the years ahead.
