A Pre-Departure Gathering in Tehran
A significant pre-departure ceremony for university students embarking on the Umrah pilgrimage was held on Tuesday at the University of Medical Sciences in Tehran. The event highlighted a major national initiative focused on the country’s academic youth.
Streamlining Spiritual Journeys
Hojjatoleslam Seyed Mohammad Taheri, Head of the Headquarters for University Students’ Umrah and Holy Shrines Pilgrimage, addressed the attendees, detailing the extensive logistical efforts. “To date, 8,000 university members have been organized into groups for the Umrah pilgrimage,” he stated. He further mentioned ongoing coordination with the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization to secure additional travel capacity for several hundred more students awaiting their passports, emphasizing the commitment to ensuring no student is left behind.
An Unprecedented National Endeavor
Highlighting the unique nature of this program, Taheri pointed out, “There is no such organization anywhere else in the world that systematically arranges Umrah pilgrimages for 8,000 of its own academics and elites.” This statement underscores the distinctive support provided for the spiritual development of the nation’s educated youth.
Focusing on the Younger Generation
The official also drew attention to the demographic profile of the pilgrims, noting that the student and academic caravans represent the youngest age group participating in Umrah travels. This focus reflects a strategic investment in the spiritual and ethical grounding of the country’s future leaders and professionals.
Financial Support for Pilgrims
In a move to facilitate participation, concrete financial measures have been implemented. Taheri clarified that while specific financial facilities were not initially promised, dedicated efforts were made to secure them. As a result, the Islamic Azad University has begun disbursing Umrah loans. Furthermore, the head of the Student Affairs Organization announced that pilgrimage loans would be granted to 1,000 students. Similar directives have been issued by the Minister of Education for teaching staff, with additional facilities from the Ministry of Health also in the pipeline.
