New Financial Support Package for Eligible Families Set for September
Government Announces Fourth Phase of Electronic Voucher Scheme to Support Households
In a continued effort to alleviate economic pressures on families, the Iranian government has announced the implementation of the fourth phase of its electronic commodity voucher program. This initiative aims to provide essential support to low and middle-income households, enabling the purchase of eleven basic goods.
Details of the Support
Similar to previous phases, the program allocates financial credits based on income deciles. Families in the first to third income deciles will receive 500,000 tomans per person, while those in the fourth to seventh deciles will be granted 350,000 tomans per person.
Funding and Implementation
Each phase of the program carries an estimated cost of 25 trillion tomans. While previous rounds were financed through the reallocation of subsidies from higher-income deciles (eighth to tenth), a new funding source has been introduced: duties collected from vehicle imports by Iranians living abroad. According to amended regulations, revenue from these duties will be directly deposited into the voucher program’s fund.
Ahmad Meydari, Minister of Cooperation, Labor, and Social Welfare, emphasized the President’s directive that this support should continue either monthly or quarterly. If implemented on a monthly basis, the fourth phase could begin in September 2024. If quarterly, the next phase will commence in October.
Ongoing Government Support
The electronic voucher program, which saw its first three phases rolled out in March, April, and July of this year, remains a cornerstone of the government’s social support system. Designed to reduce inflationary pressure and assist with household expenses, the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to economic justice and welfare.
