IAEA Chief Confirms Iran’s Nuclear Facilities Intact, Urges Immediate Diplomatic Engagement
Vienna, Austria – The Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has confirmed that there are no indications of damage or destruction to Iran’s nuclear facilities. The announcement comes amidst heightened regional tensions, prompting Grossi to issue a strong call for maximum restraint and a return to diplomatic channels by all parties involved.
Nuclear Sites Undamaged, Radiation Levels Normal
Speaking from Vienna, Grossi provided a crucial update on the status of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. “There is no indication that Iran’s nuclear facilities have been damaged or destroyed,” he stated. Further reassuring the international community, the IAEA chief noted that the agency has not observed any increase in radiation levels above normal in countries bordering Iran, indicating the immediate environment remains stable.
Urgent Call for Communication and De-escalation
Despite the positive assessment of the facilities’ integrity, Grossi highlighted a pressing concern regarding communication. He revealed that efforts to contact Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization have not yet received a response, underscoring the vital need to re-establish these communication channels without delay.
“I once again urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent any further escalation of tensions,” Grossi emphasized, stressing the imperative for both Iran and other involved parties to re-engage in the path of diplomacy. He warned that the current situation is concerning and underscored the inherent risks of an unchecked environment, noting that potential radioactive material leaks could, in hypothetical scenarios, necessitate large-scale evacuations.
Diplomacy as the Sole Path Forward
Grossi reiterated the IAEA’s steadfast position that a sustainable resolution to the long-standing complexities surrounding Iran’s nuclear program can only be achieved through negotiation. His remarks underscore the international community’s reliance on diplomatic solutions to ensure regional stability and prevent further escalation, reinforcing the IAEA’s role in verification and promoting peaceful nuclear cooperation.
