Global Alliance Pledges Over $20 Billion, Troops for Gaza Reconstruction and Stability
A newly formed international “Peace Council” has launched an ambitious initiative for the reconstruction and stabilization of Gaza, securing over $20 billion in financial commitments and pledges of military personnel from a broad coalition of nations. This significant international effort aims to foster long-term stability and rebuild the region following extensive conflict.
Mandate for Stability and Reconstruction
Established with a clear mandate to uphold a ceasefire and ensure lasting stability in Gaza, the Peace Council marks the first concerted steps towards comprehensive reconstruction. Its formation underscores a global recognition of the urgent need for a coordinated approach to address the profound humanitarian and infrastructural challenges facing the enclave.
Comprehensive Financial Backing
Financial pledges for the Council’s initiatives have garnered substantial international backing. Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a significant $10 billion contribution from Washington. This is complemented by a collective $3.2 billion commitment from several Gulf Arab states, demonstrating strong regional engagement. The United Arab Emirates leads this regional support with a pledge of $1.2 billion, while Saudi Arabia and Qatar have each committed $1 billion. Additionally, other U.S. allies have collectively pledged an estimated $7 billion, bringing the total confirmed financial commitments to over $20 billion.
International Stabilization Forces Mobilized
Beyond financial aid, the Peace Council’s agenda includes the crucial deployment of international stabilization forces to Gaza. The Commander of these forces confirmed that five nations have pledged military personnel to ensure security and facilitate reconstruction efforts. Morocco has committed to sending military officers, bolstering the leadership structure of the mission. Significantly, Indonesia has accepted the vital role of Deputy Command and plans to deploy a substantial contingent of 8,000 or more soldiers. Kazakhstan has also expressed its readiness to support the international forces with military units, including essential medical personnel, highlighting the diverse nature of global participation in this critical mission.
A New Chapter for Gaza
These wide-ranging commitments—encompassing financial aid, diplomatic frameworks, and military support—signal a determined international effort to usher in a period of reconstruction and lasting stability for Gaza. The collaborative approach, involving key global and regional players, aims to lay the groundwork for a more secure and prosperous future for the region.
