The head of the Red Crescent also issued a strong call for international accountability regarding attacks on humanitarian and civilian infrastructure.
National Unity and Support for Humanitarian Mission
During a recent visit by Mohammad Jafar Sa’empnah, Executive Deputy to the President, to the Red Crescent’s Emergency Operations Headquarters, Pirhossein Koulivand, the head of Iran’s Red Crescent Society, offered profound condolences for the martyrdom of the esteemed leader and compatriots. Koulivand expressed deep gratitude to the government and parliament for their unwavering support, which he stated has been crucial in strengthening the Red Crescent following a specific 12-day period of conflict.
This governmental and parliamentary backing has enabled the significant modernization of the Red Crescent’s equipment and enhanced its preparedness for contemporary challenges. Koulivand affirmed that the organization is now fully equipped to provide comprehensive services to the populace, facing no shortages in its mission.
Expanded Aid and Psychological Support
Highlighting the immediate impact of their services, Koulivand reported that over 4,000 citizens have utilized the Red Crescent’s 4030 psychological support system in just the past two days, demonstrating a critical response to public needs. The Society has also significantly expanded its operational capacity, now boasting over 100,000 specialized aid workers, a notable increase from 70,000 during the aforementioned period of conflict.
The Red Crescent’s operational plan has been thoroughly updated, ensuring rapid response times. Aid workers are now capable of reaching incident sites within 3 to 4 minutes due to strategic deployments across urban areas. Furthermore, Koulivand emphasized that Red Crescent pharmacies operate 24/7, tirelessly working to ensure that citizens have uninterrupted access to essential medications.
Resilience Amidst Regional Challenges
Koulivand underscored the Red Crescent’s unwavering commitment to service, even amid external challenges. He stated that despite alleged missile attacks targeting law enforcement facilities near humanitarian centers, the Red Crescent’s crucial work of aid delivery continued uninterrupted. This highlights the organization’s resilience and dedication to its mission even under complex security conditions.
Call for International Accountability and Action
In a significant diplomatic move, Koulivand revealed that the Red Crescent has dispatched letters to various national societies, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. These communications urge the international community to condemn attacks on medical facilities, relief centers, and schools, and seek assistance in upholding the rights of those affected. Koulivand stressed the imperative for the international Red Cross movement to demonstrate its principles, asserting that its fundamental nature depends on such decisive action.
