Title: August Subsidy Payments Roll Out to Support Low-Income Households
Government Disburses Cash Subsidies in Three Phases
The Iranian government has initiated the distribution of cash subsidies for August 2024, targeting low and middle-income households in three phases. The first phase, covering the bottom three income deciles, began on Saturday, August 25, with a payment of 400,000 tomans per person. The second phase, for deciles four to nine, is scheduled for Wednesday, August 31, at 300,000 tomans per individual.
Household payments vary based on family size. For example, a three-person family in the first three deciles will receive 1.2 million tomans, while those in deciles four to nine will get 900,000 tomans. Larger families receive proportionally higher amounts, with five-member households in the lowest deciles eligible for 2 million tomans.
Parliament’s Redistribution Plan Pending Implementation
While the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) previously approved a measure to redirect subsidies from the eighth and ninth deciles to the lowest three, the policy has yet to take effect. According to the Minister of Labor, the adjustment will begin after September 2024, meaning August payments remain unchanged.
Additional Support: Welfare Payments and E-Coupons
In parallel, welfare beneficiaries under the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation and the State Welfare Organization received their monthly stipends on Monday, August 20, marking a 40% increase since the start of the year.
The third phase of the electronic coupon (kala-barg) program also remains active until August 31, allowing eligible families to purchase essential goods at designated stores.
Key Considerations for Recipients
- Subsidy deposits are typically available for withdrawal shortly after midnight on payment days.
- Bank debts or frozen accounts may affect access to funds, prompting officials to advise keeping subsidy accounts separate.
This structured support system underscores the government’s commitment to economic stability and social welfare, ensuring timely assistance for vulnerable groups.
