Iran Advocates for Strait of Hormuz Security Through Diplomatic Coordination
Tehran, Iran – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the secure passage of non-hostile vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the necessity of diplomatic coordination. This stance was articulated during a high-level call between Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and Austria’s State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Beatrix Mayr-Ullrich.
Regional Security and Economic Impacts Under Discussion
The conversation primarily focused on regional developments and the significant security and economic repercussions stemming from what Iran describes as the imposed war by the United States and the Zionist regime against the nation. Ms. Mayr-Ullrich expressed concern over the broader consequences of the conflict on global security and the economy, advocating for diplomatic solutions to de-escalate the situation. Austria conveyed its readiness to engage in facilitating such diplomatic efforts.
Iran Highlights Aggression and Calls for International Accountability
Foreign Minister Araghchi provided a detailed account of alleged aggressions and violations over a 35-day military campaign. He underscored the responsibility of all nations to condemn these actions, which Iran characterizes as clear breaches of international law and acts of state terrorism. Specific targets of these alleged attacks, including Iran’s industrial infrastructure, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities, were highlighted.
Sovereignty and National Interests Paramount
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to utilize all its capabilities and capacities to defend its sovereignty, national interests, and territorial integrity,” Minister Araghchi stated. He also critiqued the approach of certain European countries, suggesting they disproportionately focus on the economic consequences of the conflict while overlooking the alleged illegal and criminal nature of the military aggression.
Strait of Hormuz: A Consequence of Aggression, Not Provocation
Araghchi posited that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz is a direct outcome of the alleged unlawful actions by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran. He urged the international community to adopt a responsible approach and hold the alleged aggressors accountable for their transgressions.
Coordinated Passage for Maritime Safety
Addressing the measures Iran has implemented in the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi clarified that these actions are in line with international law. Their primary objective, he explained, is to prevent the alleged aggressors and their partners from exploiting this vital waterway for further hostile activities against Iran. “Non-hostile ships can coordinate with the Islamic Republic of Iran for safe passage through this waterway,” he affirmed.
Continued Diplomatic Engagement
The foreign ministers also exchanged views on consular matters and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining ongoing diplomatic engagement at various levels between Iran and Austria.
