Iran Dismisses Ceasefire Talks, Sets Conditions for End to Regional Conflict
Vienna, Austria – Iran’s Ambassador to Austria, Asadollah Eshragh Jahromi, has firmly stated that there are no ongoing negotiations with the United States concerning a ceasefire. In an interview with the prominent Austrian weekly “Profil,” Ambassador Jahromi outlined Iran’s clear prerequisites for an end to the ongoing conflict, emphasizing that true resolution requires more than just a pause in hostilities.
No Ceasefire Talks on the Agenda
Ambassador Jahromi explicitly conveyed that discussions with the United States regarding a ceasefire are not currently on the diplomatic table. This assertion underscores Iran’s position that any future engagement must address the root causes and consequences of the conflict comprehensively.
Conditions for Lasting Peace
According to Jahromi, a genuine end to the conflict is contingent upon three fundamental conditions:
- Permanent Cessation of Aggression: A definitive halt to all acts of aggression.
- Guarantees Against Recurrence: Assurances that such hostilities will not be repeated in the future.
- Compensation for Damages: Payment for the damages incurred by Iran as a result of the conflict.
Iran’s Perspective on the Conflict
The Iranian envoy characterized the current conflict as an “imposed war,” asserting that it is “not our war” but rather a “chosen war” by the United States and the Zionist regime against the Iranian people and nation. He highlighted Iran’s historical commitment to diplomatic solutions, stating that Iran engaged in good-faith diplomacy and negotiations to avert war and crisis in the region. However, he claimed that these efforts were undermined when the U.S. previously “attacked Iran” during ongoing negotiations, thereby betraying the diplomatic process.
Seeking Comprehensive Regional Security
Ambassador Jahromi reiterated that while specific ceasefire talks have not occurred, Iran’s ultimate objective remains the establishment of a permanent agreement for comprehensive peace and security across the region. This overarching goal includes robust guarantees against future aggressions and due compensation for any sustained damages to the nation.
