Border Crossing Operations Restored at Shalamcheh Amid Regional Stability Efforts
Baghdad, Iraq – Normal passenger traffic has resumed at the Shalamcheh border crossing, a key transit point between Iraq and Iran, according to the head of Iraq’s Border Crossing Authority. The development signals a return to routine operations following a temporary disruption.
Resumption of Normal Operations
General Omar Al-Waili, head of the Border Crossing Authority, announced on Saturday evening that passenger movement at the Shalamcheh crossing has returned to its usual pace. This statement confirms the full restoration of services at this vital gateway.
Previous Incidents and Regional Context
The temporary halt in commercial and passenger traffic at Shalamcheh had been attributed to an incident affecting the passenger terminal on the Iranian side of the border. This incident occurred amidst broader regional tensions. Al-Waili had previously informed the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the disruption followed an aerial incident that regrettably resulted in the loss of one Iraqi citizen’s life and left five others injured. Those injured were reportedly transferred to a hospital within Iran for treatment.
The restoration of normal operations at Shalamcheh underscores the importance of maintaining stable border management and underscores ongoing efforts to ensure the smooth flow of people and commerce, contributing to regional security and cooperation.
