Israeli Official’s Analysis Points to Potential Pre-Election Regional Escalation
A Lebanese political figure has presented an analysis suggesting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing for a significant military escalation in the region, potentially before October.
A Calculated Strategy
Rafi Madayan, Secretary of the Lebanese Independent Party (Christians), was cited in the analysis. He stated that Netanyahu is seeking to prepare a second strike on Iran, likely in late September. This alleged planning is linked to the upcoming expiration of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), known commonly as the 5+1 agreement, with Iran in October.
According to this perspective, after this date, the international framework governing Iran’s nuclear activities will change. The analysis suggests that the United States and Europe would then be compelled to negotiate a new agreement with Iran. The purported Israeli objective would be to weaken Iran’s position and force it to make concessions in any future negotiations.
A Broader Regional Campaign
The analysis further claims that any such action would be accompanied by a simultaneous Israeli attack on Lebanon. This is predicated on the assumption that Hezbollah would intervene in a conflict involving Israel and Iran.
The report concludes that, for now, Netanyahu’s focus is allegedly on preparing for this potential campaign and persuading former U.S. President Donald Trump to participate in it. This analysis highlights the complex and tense geopolitical calculations currently at play in the Middle East.
